Ladies and gentlemen, your Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. In the first official photo from Powers, the new TV series coming to the PlayStation Network from Sony Pictures Television, Sharito Copley and Susan Heyward show off their serious faces. The pair (and others, of course) are filming now in Atlanta, with a ten-episode season one commitment, USAToday reports.
They also got some comments from Charlie Huston, EP on the series, about what to expect. After praising Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the comic’s creators, and their original concept, Huston got into the individual characters a bit.
”[Deena] knows nothing about this world. She’s really young, she’s really inexperienced, but she’s a completely instinctive, awesome detective,” Huston said. While that sounds pretty close to the comics, her partner might be a bit more changed. When they auditioned Copley, Huston said, “I don’t know what kind of Walker that is but I totally want to see it.” He also said that he hopes “the show and the book almost run in parallel universes as they explore the same themes,” so expect some more changes as things develop.
Retro Girl, played by Michelle Forbes, will likewise be a bit of a shift form the book. “I love the idea of a mature Retro Girl, someone who's been at the top forever and ever and ever, and having that not just be an internal thing but be something we're fully aware of the first time we see her.” Of course, that might not get explored too much, if the comic gets followed at all.
