It looks like Flash’s Captain Cold is getting the band back together – in more ways than one.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Dominic Purcell has been cast as the fire-based villain Heat Wave for the upcoming Flash television series. Purcell is set to debut in the show’s tenth episode alongside his former Prison Break co-star Wentworth Miller, who will be playing Captain Cold, and whom will debut in the fourth episode of the inaugural season. There is said to be hints about Heat Wave in that episode, as THR says "he'll be heard from."
First introduced in 1963’s Flash #140 by John Broome and Carmine Infantino, the longtime pyromaniac was dramatically altered in the advent of “The New 52,” changing him from being a flamethrower-wielding villain to being able to blast fire directly from his chest. As mentioned, Heat Wave is a staunch member of a group of criminals known as the Rogues, led by Captain Cold, who became somewhat fan favorites during Geoff Johns’ run on The Flash. The Weather Wizard, another member of the group, appears in the pilot.
Purcell comes to Flash with a long résumé of television and film roles, but he’s best known as Lincoln Burrows in Prison Break. Purcell, who studied acting alongside Hugh Jackman, might be familiar to comics fans as he played Dracula in 2004’s Blade: Trinity.
