Co-directors (and co-brothers) Joe and Anthony Russo have been doing a bit of talking about 2016’s Captain America 3, given Marvel Studios is in the midst of promoting the home video releases of Captain America: The Winter Solider.
Most interesting comment, but probably a joke? Entertainment Weekly asked the Russos what stories from the “dark corners of Captain America‘s history you’d like to get into the movies at some point?”
Joe Russo replied “Capwolf,” but again, we wouldn’t hold out breath waiting for “Captain America: Capwolf” anytime soon.
In the same interview, Joe Russo did promise that fans should expect a tonal shift in the 3rd installment as significant as the change in tone between the first two.
“You have to work really hard to deliver something different, and exciting, and challenging. That’s what we’re in the middle of on Cap 3 right now, pushing really hard to make sure that what we deliver is something that’s gonna be different from Captain America: the Winter Soldier.”
Earlier in the week, in a separate interview with Movies.com, Anthony Russo got the Internet speculation machine firing on all cylinders when he hinted at a mystery character slated to appear in Cap 3.
“I can’t divulge who is going to be in the film, but I think fans are going to freak out when they hear about it,” Russo teased.
Hawkeye was a common guess given some comments from Jeremy Renner days earlier talking about that very possibility. And Cap fans are always advocating for M.O.D.O.K. But if Newsarama had a house, we’d considering betting it on a certain Captain America archrival.
Given we already know Cap’s search for Bucky/the Winter Solider will play a significant role in the film, what better character to serve as catalyst to their eventual reconciliation than the character they already fought together as Captain American and Bucky?
Want further evidence? You can always look to Marvel Comics for some clues to which characters they expect will be playing a big role in a future film. Their Age of Ultron event series preceded next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron film.
So what character are they currently setting up to serve as a major force in the Marvel Universe over the next year?

JESSE EINESBERG Talks LEX
Shockingly little has gotten out about the villains of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite the title pitting two heroes against each other, there has to be a villain for them to eventually team up against, right? Well, we do know Lex Luthor will be there, played by Jesse Eisenberg.
The actor talked to Total Film Magazine about the role, breaking his (and Warners’) lengthy silence. “I got to know one of the writers really well, Chris Terrio, and we were able to discuss things at length and figure out who this person is to create a real psychology behind what is, perhaps, in a comic book, a less than totally modern psychology,” he said. “I can only say I've been asked to play an interesting role: a complicated, challenging person.”
Despite getting to know the writer, he actually had to tell Warner Bros he wanted to play Luthor before ever getting to read a word. Now that he has of course read it, he’s very excited about the possibilities.
”I realize how popular comic-book movies are, and now, working on one, I realize why they're popular — the story is really good, the dialogue is really good, the artistry behind every department is high, the acting is really good.”
