The adoptive sisters Nebula and Gamora were two of the stand-out characters of the now half-billion dollar grossing Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Now in recently released concept art, we’ve learned that they could’ve been quite different - or at least their looks could have been. Marvel concept artist Andy Park has revealed several never-before-seen illustrations he did for Marvel Studios on his Twitter page, including drafts of Nebula and Gamora as well as an earlier, rougher, “Star Wars/Mad Max”-influenced take on the Guardians team.

The two most prominent changes made to these characters in the final design was the removal of tattoos on Gamora in favor of the subdermal implants, as well as Nebula originally having more prominent cybernetics. It’s also interesting to note that one of the designs for Nebula have her showcasing duds more in line with Ronan the Accusser, and several with her painted with the black ceremonial ink Ronan wears in the film.
