We heard back in April from Chris Evans on the subject of the new film Human Torch, Michael B. Jordan. While the actor who originated the role for Fox was on the press tour for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, his second role based on Marvel Comics, he said of Jordan, "It's so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don't want someone else to do it. But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing it, it's very exciting like you almost can't wait....I couldn't even give that guy any advice if I wanted, that guy is so good. It's exciting to see what he's going to do, because I know he's going to reinvent it in a way that I could never have imagined... It's almost like we're sharing, the character is ours. I feel like I'm connected with him in a way, It's a nice feeling."
Now Jordan is speaking up about Johnny Storm, who he’ll play in June 19, 2015’s Fantastic Four, a reboot of the franchise being directed by Josh Trank, who broke onto the scene with his subversive super powered film, Chronicle. Jordan told The Source Magazine that he met Evans at an event and got “words of encouragement from the guy who killed [at] the role.”
”He was basically like, ‘Man I can’t give you anything.’ He said, ‘You’re great, you’re awesome. Just do your thing. And enjoy it. It’s gonna be fun.’” Jordan told the magazine.
After further praising Evans and his work as both Human Torch and Captain America, the actor teased just a little about his and Trank’s take on Johnny Storm, which he said they’ve been working on since just after Chronicle came out.
"We knew we had a lot of obstacles in the way and a lot of mountains to move but, you know, for whatever reason things just fell into place and... Fox believed in the situation and believed in me and yeah, we got it done," Jordan said. "Johnny Storm is such an iconic character. There’s a lot of personality traits and things to him that people are really going to look forward to seeing. Got a lot of original Johnny stuff in there and then you have – not a NEW take but a fresh take. We have a different take on different things as well. I could go on and on about it but I think it’s something that people will enjoy."
Jordan will likely “go on and on about it” more in the near future as principal photography wraps on the film. Surprisingly little about the movie, including set pictures, story, or really any confirmed details have leaked, let alone been released.
