THE FLASH Adds Explosive New Castmember, S.H.I.E.L.D. Roster Continues Expansion
And The CW’s DC TV Universe just keeps expanding. Plastique is the latest metahuman to take a star turn on the show, with Kelly Frye playing Bette Sans Souci on the fifth episode of The Flash and signed on for possibly more. While the character is traditionally a super villain, casting reports say she “finds an ally in the Flash,” after the government tries to use her and her explosive powers for their own means, implying all may not be quite as it appeared in the comics. Interestingly as well, she first appeared in the pages of Fury of Firestorm, and Robbie Amell has been cast as half of Firestorm, Ronnie Raymond.
It’s not Plastique’s first time on TV, either, as she’s been animated on Justice League Unlimited and was a three-time villain on Smallville.
Meanwhile, across the fence, ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has added Simon Kassianides as a new “major recurring role,” says Deadline. The character is called simply “Bakshi.” While that doesn’t seem to be any kind of known Marvel Comics character, it does represent the continued cast expansion, after Lucy Lawless, Nick Blood, and Reed Diamond have already been added to the show. Perhaps Coulson’s tiny team won’t be the only game in town this season, leading to a more “Game of Thrones” or “Battlestar Galactica” size and style of cast? We’ll see when it premieres September 23, 2014.
