While the Ghostbusters ongoing series may be coming to an end, their adventures continue in October 2014 with the help of some new friends: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. IDW Publishing knows a thing or two about crossing over beloved properties from three decades or so ago (thanks to their work with G.I. Joe / Transformers), and this time team two franchises celebrating a 30th birthday.
The crossover will see the Ninja Turtles traveling to the New York of the Ghostbusters in a multiversal hop worthy of the best comic book crossovers. They'll have some tagalongs, of course, so that both teams can sample fighting each others' nemesis, be they ghost or Foot.
Tom Waltz and Erik Burnham will write the series together, both having experience on TMNT comics, and Waltz being the editor of Ghostbusters. The latter series artist Dan Schoening will keep right on drawing proton packs as the artist of the crossover mini-series, set to run four issues starting in October.
“A couple of years ago, Tom Waltz and I chatted like the fans we are about how insanely fun this crossover would be if we ever got the chance to write it,” said series co-writer Erik Burnham in a press release. “As I sit here today, my excitement level is at eleven.”
“This is an idea that Erik, series editor Bobby Curnow, and I have bounced off each other for quite a while,” said series co-writer Tom Waltz. “And being as deeply entrenched in both properties as the three of us are gives us a unique perspective on how to bring them together. And what better time to do it than during the combined 30th year anniversary celebration?”
