The first Netflix/Marvel Studios TV series, officially titled Marvel’s Daredevil has found a leading lady to join its star and villain.
Rosario Dawson will star in the series as an as-yet unnamed character, according to a Marvel press release. The actress’s character is described as “a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.”
Charlie Cox stars in the series as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast as the villain Wilson “The Kingpin” Fisk. Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb says Dawson’s “role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil,” so let the speculation begin. Dawson previously starred in the comic-book-based Sin City and its upcoming sequel, as well as providing a voice in the 2009 animated Wonder Woman film.
The series is due to premiere on Netflix in 2015, and is being executive produced by Steven S. DeKnight (also serving as showrunner), Drew Goddard, and Jeph Loeb. It is the first of four 13-episode series and a mini-series signed into the deal between Netflix and Marvel, with Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage running after, leading to The Defenders, teaming all the previous heroes.
