The Danish plastic toy iteration of The Dark Knight will return in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the follow up to 2012’s LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and this time Gotham’s Guardian and his super-friends take their show on the road to stop the supervillian Brainiac from destroying the planet Earth.
From the press release, the evil artificial intelligence has stolen the power of the Lantern Rings to shrink the Earth and add it to his collection. Now both the heroes and villains of the DCU must team up to save their home planet by collection the Lanterns power for themselves.
“Building on the incredibly successful LEGO Batman franchise, we are working to make LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham the ultimate super hero videogame this year for all ages,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “The TT Games team is bringing LEGO Batman and an astounding amount of characters from the DC Comics universe to the next frontier with a new epic story, more gadgets and unexpected challenges.”
TT Games promises more than 150 characters, including the likes of Killer Croc and Solomon Grundy done in the ‘big figure’ style first seen in Lego Marvel Super Heroes for larger characters like the Hulk, with new gadgets and abilities. Plus Brainiac’s mind controlling abilities and the power of the Lantern rings will bring “unexpected twists to the classic characters’ personalities.”
Beyond the story mode LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham players will also be able to access Batman’s training modules on the Bat Computer and take part in various challenges, battles and races. Fans of earth bound DCU location shouldn’t fret, locations such as the Hall of Justice, the Batcave and the Justice League Watchtower will be included, but there is no indication what size they will be.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games (parent of LEGO game innovator Traveller's Tales) hope continue their massively successful run of LEGO-plus-licensed property themed video games with LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, currently set for a Fall 2014 release for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, the Vita and 3DS handheld systems and Windows PCs.
