After recently appearing together in an animated movie written by Marjorie Liu, now The Punisher and Black Widow, conveniently both written by Nathan Edmondson, will see a comic book adventure take place in August. In #9 of each series (it’s a quick crossover), the two titles collide in a story called “Friend from Foe.”
Edmondson said in a press release that the crossover was something they were looking at from the start of both series. “We knew fans were clamoring for it from the beginning, but we didn’t want to rush into it – when it was a natural time, we came up with a really unique way to launch into it.”
The story comes organically from the pair each individually investigating the same syndicate. They’ll also be facing off with another skull-clothed character, Crossbones.
“Frank and Natasha are a really interesting pair to combine together,” said Edmondson. “On the one hand, they seem to exist in the same kind of heroic/antiheroic space in the Marvel Universe, but at some point the similarities stop and the disparity begins, and the tug and pull between those two ends will be at play here.”
