Okay, it’s our first time seeing Ben Affleck in the batsuit for the tentatively titled Batman vs Superman, Superman vs Batman, or just Man of Steel 2 if you don't want to get crazy - but where have we seen that look before? We enhanced the image in Photoshop to give us a better look, and when you outline that big, broad bat symbol, it all becomes clear.
Zack Snyder's monochrome photo of Affleck is very dark and murky. Fortunately Photoshop has tools for enhancing details. It's not quite CSI-level technology, but by using fake "high-dynamic-range toning" and applying an adjustment to shadow levels, a surprising amount of detail can be recovered from even poorly exposed images.
Here's a newly-added high res version.
Elements of the Affleck batsuit clearly resemble those of artists Frank Miller and Klaus Janson’s rendition of Batman in the seminal 1986 limited series The Dark Knight Returns.
The ears atop Batman's cowl are short, much like in the comic. The Bat-symbol is very wide, deep, and covers Batman’s chest, on Affleck’s suit as well as in Miller’s artwork. The utility belt has several boxy pouches in both versions.
At the same time, Affleck’s batsuit maintains a continuity with Christian Bale’s version, since it is all-black (at least it seems to be, in the monochrome image), appears thick, and has armor-like qualities. Batman in Dark Knight Returns also wears an armored version of the batsuit, but it does not look like the one Affleck is wearing in the photo.
We've also enhanced yesterday's tease of the back of the Batmobile, so you can more easily discern its features.
