Fox revealed footage of X-Men: Days of Future Past at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and we once again turn to our friends at io9 for the description. The footage shown was of the opening sequence to the film, and it is brutal.
SPOILERS ARE ON
If you're familiar with the comic book that this movie gets its name, and at least its concept from, then you probably know of that iconic cover that features the faces of several mutant characters X'ed out, signifying their deaths.
Well, get ready to see those deaths on screen. In a massive battle with the Sentinels, while Kitty Pryde and Bishop are running through it all trying to get to a specific room, the bloodbath ensues. Colossus goes metal, gets his arm ripped off and his head crushed by a Sentinel foot. Sunspot flames on, Sentinel goes cold and chokes him out, Iceman in full Ice form gets his head ripped off by a superheated Sentinel, Warpath gets vaporized by a blast, Blink is impaled by a Sentinel arm.
At the end of the fight, though, Bishop and Kitty are about to get attacked themselves, and after a one-liner by Kitty, they disappear, presumably into the past - because the whole room resets, and is suddenly missing objects, damage, and of course, the Sentinels.
So don't worry, that probably isn't the only scene you'll see the new mutants like Blink and Warpath or some of your old favorites like Iceman in, but it does set the tone that the first scene of the movie is the utter destruction of the entire mutant force.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.
