There seems no end to the comic book-to-movie pipeline anytime soon. Variety reported Friday that the movie adaptation of Greg Rucka’s spy-thriller Oni series Queen & Country, with Ellen (Kitty Pryde) Page attached to star as Tara Chace, has found a director.
British relative newcomer Craig Viveiros will direct the Chernin Entertainment/20th Century Fox production.
John Rogers (Leverage, Blue Beetle comics) is penning the script about a British agent (Page) who goes on the run from her own people as she tries to bring down a terrorist on English soil.
Viveiros’ directing career began in shorts like Back to Black and commercials and he wrote, directed and produced his debut feature film Ghosted. Viveiros also reportedly lived in Haiti volunteering at the country’s film institute and then returned to England to make The Liability starring Tim Roth.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Fox and Ellen in the task of bringing Tara Chace and Queen & Country to life on the big screen,” the director said in a statement. “The echoes of excitement in creating an exciting, unique bold addition the spy genre are held firm by Greg’s solid, riveting source material."
Rucka and Queen & Country were recently talked up at length by MSNBC host Rachel Maddow when she appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
