Adrian Pasdar has been cast as Colonel Glenn Talbot on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but comic book fans shouldn’t immediately assume that means there’s anything green and gamma-radiated going on. The actor, who plays Iron Man on the current animated series including Avengers Assemble, is also a Jeph Loeb veteran from his days as a producer on Heroes. In an announcement interview with Marvel.com, Pasdar expressed his excitement for playing the mustachioed military man, and how his son actually helped him research.
“‘Well, dad. Here’s what we gotta do. We gotta go to Midtown Comics right away because you know the guy on the second floor with the beard?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ ‘We’ve gotta find him and ask him what he thinks and his questions. He’ll help you out,’” Pasdar said of their conversation when he got the part. He said that he makes sure to research characters like Talbot and Iron Man considerably before playing them, because those characters already mean something to people.
”You have to meet their expectations rather than define it by your own, and it’s not pandering at all. It’s just a little more difficult way of bringing something to life. You can’t just rely on your instincts and your imagination, you have to match up with what the expectations are from the people who are hiring you and watching you,” Pasdar said.
The look of Talbot will mirror that of the comics, with the military uniform and that mustache. He didn’t say much about the role, except to say, “Every show needs a jerk; I guess I’m that guy. I make everybody else look so nice. I’m the bad guy. Let me be bad, and then they look like shining knights in comparison.”
Pasdar’s episode (for now) was not announced, though the actor said he’s open to returning.
