The mask for The CW's Flash

As production is about to kick off for The CW's new superhero series The Flash, they sent out this image via press release of Grant Gustin in the costume - well, at least of his head.

The costume was designed by Oscar award winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the costume for Arrow.  The press release also announced that the pilot will begin filming next week, so expect more pictures from the set soon, most likely.

The first look at the costume shows a darker red than what comic fans may be used to (the bright red might do strange things to color saturation on screen). There's a chin piece to the costume holding the mask more solidly in place, and what appears to be some sort of collar coming up over the base of the cowl.

The Flash spins out of Arrow, having introduced Barry Allen in the middle of the second season of The CW's successful new DC Comics series. It will stay in the same universe, which has already established a multitude of DC Comics characters, including Deadshot, Deathstroke, Bronze Tiger, Black Canary, Huntress, and many, many more.

Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and David Nutter are executive producing the series (all also on Arrow), with a script by Berlanti, Kreisberg, and DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns being directed by David Nutter.
