B.J. Novak's role in May's Amazing Spider-Man 2 was finally revealed via director Marc Webb's Twitter account Monday. And here it is:
Webb is almost certainly referring to villain Alistair Smythe, who debuted in 1985's The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #19 and just recently died in this past September's Superior Spider-Man #13.
Alistair is the son of Spencer Smythe, the creator of the first generation of 'Spider-Slayer' robots commissioned by J. Johan Jameson. In various plots against Spider-Man mostly motivated by revenge for the death of his father (Spencer died due to prolonged exposure to radioactive chemicals that powered the Spider-Slayers) Alistair eventually assumed the mantle of the 'Ultimate Spider-Slayer', encasing himself in a "biorganic carapace armor."
Webb's tweet refers to Novak's collection of short stories - One More Thing - that releases on Tuesday.
