Announced in time for Thor: The Dark World and Halloween, the developers of the free-to-play MMO Marvel Heroes are adding a trickster as a treat for their community. Fresh off the launch of the fan favorite character Squirrel Girl, the Asgardian God of Lies (and breakout movie star) Loki will be the first playable ‘villain’ character in the expanding roster of the game. His coming will also open Asgard, the first major new area added to the game, to the players.
Loki’s default, rare drop appearance will in garb akin to his Avengers movie costume, complete with a Chitauri Staff and a sort-of-Tom Hiddleston likeness. If purchased as part of a pre-launch bundle, players will also get a couple of bonuses including a skin of his “classic” comic book appearance including that infamous giant horned helmet.
Keeping with the game’s structure, Loki’s abilities are split into three trees that players mix and match skills from to their liking. Brawlers can choose to develop Loki’s Frost Giant roots and gain strength, players who prefer casting can tap into his original people’s power over ice-based magic, and finally his skills as an illusionist can have foes chasing shadows into deadly traps.
Loki arrives next week among a wave of seasonal updates for the game including a Brood-infested Wolverine skin and a Franken-Castle skin for The Punisher.
