The folks at 411mania got ahold of Ben Affleck, and naturally, they wanted to talk about his upcoming role as Batman in the untitled sequel to Man of Steel. While Affleck couldn’t say much, he did talk a bit about why he took the role.
Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn't fit the traditional mold, but once Zack showed me the concept and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris and Christian made but still in keeping with tradition, I was excited,” Affleck told 411mania. “Doing something different and new is always tricky and part of the thrill and the risk is that initially it confounds expectations. The truth is, it's the movie and the execution of it is what all the actors depend on and I believe in Zack's vision.”
The actor/director also confirmed WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara’s comments that his Batman will be “tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for awhile,” but he wouldn’t bite and say anything more there.
“I don't want to go further because I want to be able to capitalize on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience.”
It will be interesting to see how much Warner Bros agrees when it comes time to promote the movie. With the rash of trailers, tv spots, stills, clips, and interviews that movie studios trot out for their big tentpole releases, it’s unlikely that it will be a surprise – at least not one fans will see in the theater.
