While Trevor Slattery probably won't be back in the Marvel Studios movies, it seems Sir Ben Kingsley will.
Speaking with the Belfast Telegraph during press for Ender's Game, Kingsley let slip that he has recently done some new work with Marvel Studios.
"It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see," Kingsley said to the paper. "I was with many members of the crew that were involved in Iron Man 3. It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family. I think they have enormous taste as creative artists. There's nothing lazy or gratuitous about their work. They are at the top of their game, and they're great company to keep."
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige reportedly confirmed through lack of denial, joking that there'd be "repercussions" for the reveal.
But what could Kingsley be speaking of? Well, it sounds like the work is already done, and was recent. There's only one Marvel Studios movie currently in active production, which just finished principal photography, and that's Guardians of the Galaxy. For Kingsley to play another role for Marvel Studios, playing a voice would certainly be the best available option. While we know Thanos will have some role in Guardians, he doesn't yet have a voice cast for the all-CGI character. it would be an interesting proposition, to have gone from playing the sort-of Mandarin to playing the actual Thanos, certainly a role befitting the award-winning actor, and one that would give him some staying power in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
That's all conjecture, of course, but it does make a certain amount of sense. Of course, maybe Trevor Slattery is just making a one-off for-laughs appearance in one of those "post-credits" scenes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If anyone can pull off two roles in the relatively small MCU, it's Kingsley.
