The New York Comic Con news has already started, despite the show being a hair under a week away. Horror, and specifically zombie movie, legend George A. Romero has had a tease with Marvel for quite some time, but now it has been revealed: Empire of the Dead, and all-new story written by Romero, drawn by Alex Maleev, and coming out as a serialized comic series starting January 2014.

“George A. Romero singlehandedly created the zombie genre that’s captured the public imagination for decades,” says Editor In Chief Axel Alonso in a press release.  “Now, his unique vision for the silver screen comes to life on the comic book page – a chilling rumination on human nature and man’s place in the food chain, served with a terrifying twist.”

The story is apt for a New York Comic Con announcement, as it takes place in New York City years after zombies began roaming the Earth. Romero will be at the "Cup O' Joe" panel at NYCC on Saturday at 4pm in Room 1E with more details, and a poster will be available at the Marvel booth.

More to come on Empire of the Dead in about a week.
