Christian Seratos is the latest to join the cast of The Walking Dead on AMC, playing comic book transplant Rosita Espinosa. Seratos is best known for her roles in the Twilight films and on television's Secret Life of an American Teenager and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide.
Rosita started as one of three survivors of a at-one-time "Rick's Group" sized group, and grew in the comics into a character with integral roles and ties to many of the major players. She is also a character with a lot of room for growth and more exploration on the series, as not much of her past was revealed in the comic book. While initially known for (and using) her looks to get by, Rosita's optimism and quick understanding become her defining traits.
Another interesting part of Rosita joining the cast is the implication that Abraham, a tough guy who in the comics becomes both a major foil and a close confidant for series star Rick, and their traveling partner Eugene would come along for the ride. This also gets fans of both the comic and TV show a big step closer to The Hunters, Alexandria, and eventually the Hilltop and the Saviors - those are all terms that mean nothing to fans who only watch the show, but have to pop into the mind of those who've been reading the comic book. For TV-only fans, know that those terms are as important as things like "the Prison," or "The Governor."
The news comes the same day as news of a spin-off companion series to The Walking Dead was announced; that series is said to feature all-new characters not seen in either the comic book or the existing TV show. Both incarnations have thus far stuck largely to the American Southeast, with the implication that the new second show will take place in another part of the country or the world.
