In this week’s installment of Marvel’s web news series The Watcher, host Lorraine Cink shared the exclusive first comments from director Joss Whedon on the casting of James Spader as Ultron for the 2015 Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
“Spader was my first and only choice,” Whedon said, according to Cink. “He’s got that hypnotic voice that can be eerily calm and compelling, but he’s also very human and humorous.”
“Ultron is not HAL,” Whedon says, referring to the fictional computer character in 2001: A Space Odyssey. “Spader can play all of the levels. He is the guy to break all of the Avengers into pieces.”
Filming for Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to commence in early 2014 at the famed Shepperton Studios in England, with the film set for release on May 1, 2015.
