If you like your wallcrawler animated, then you'll love the announcement just made at the Marvel Television Presents panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego. The animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, which airs on Sunday mornings as part of Disney XD's "Marvel Universe" block, has been renewed for a third season. This confirms earlier reports of the series' renewal after one of thee shows voice actors, Caitlyn Taylor, tweeted about a third season for the show back in May.
The news was made official at the panel by Disney's General Manager and Vice President David Levine, along with the head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. According to Loeb, the third season will see Spider-Man join the ranks of the Avengers and fight beside Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk. But that's not all says Loeb..
"We're making the Marvel Universe even more awesome," said Loeb at the panel," with the introductions of Cloak & Dagger, Amadeus Cho, Ka-Zar and the animated debut of Agent Venom!"
Since it's debut in 2012, Ultimate Spider-Man has quickly become DisneyXD's highest ranking animated series, earning an average of 605,000 viewers per episode according to the Hollywood Reporter.
At the same panel, Loeb showed off a full episode of the forthcoming series Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. exclusively for panel-goers. THR has a never-before-seen clip from the series, showing a rampaging Hulk tearing into Tony Stark.
Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. is set to premiere on Sunday August 11 on Disney XD, and follows Hulk and a team of gamma-irradiated cohorts such as She-Hulk, Red Hulk, Skaar and A-Bomb as they fight evil and try not to fight each other.
