300: Rise of an Empire isn't out for another nine months or so, but the first trailer debuted Wednesday — maybe to play up the connection to Zack Snyder, whose Superman reboot Man of Steel is out this Friday.

Snyder directed the original 300 in 2007, and is listed as a producer in the trailer, which also makes mention of Man of Steel. The movie, directed by Noam Murro, takes place before before, during and after the original film, and brings back Lena Headey as Queen Gorgo, and Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes.

Here's the trailer:

300: Rise of an Empire — billed as based on Frank Miller's graphic novel Xerxes, which was previewed in Dark Horse Presents in 2011 but hasn't yet been released in full — is scheduled for release on March 7, 2014.
