The first villain that was revealed for Batman: Arkham Origins was the dangerous assassin Deathstroke the Terminator. Now, as the first full trailer for the game is released, Deathstroke steals the spotlight again as a confirmed playable character in the challenge mode for the game.
In a press release accompanying the trailer, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment announced the character, who will be part of a free DLC pack for most gamers. While those who pre-order for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC get "exclusive early access" to the Deathstroke pack, WiiU gamers are left out. It is unclear in the release if they will have access to the pack at a later date or not at all. We have reached out ot WBIE for clarification and will update this story when we receive a response.
The character's pack will be designed from the ground up around the character. That means he'll have unique moves, weapons, and challenge maps just for him, plus be playable on all the other challenges. Deathstroke will come with 3 skins total, so those hoping for Pirate Slade from Flashpoint can keep their hopes alive.
The first trailer for the game also reveals Black Mask and Deadshot in motion for the first time. And one of the released screen shots with the press release teases that we might meet another slightly important villain "for the first time" in Arkham Origins. The game centers around Black Mask, crime lord of the Gotham underground, and his quest to destroy the young upstart vigilante Batman. Mask hires seven deadly assassins to come to Gotham City in a winner-take-all match of hunting the hero, including Deadshot, Deathstroke, and more. Anarky also appears in new screenshots, and alongside Joker, Bane was also confirmed as appearing in the game, though it's not clear whether they'll be part of Black Mask's plot or independent agents just getting started out themselves.
Batman: Arkham Origins, the prequel to previous titles Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, comes to Xbox 360, PS3, WiiU, and PC on October 25, 2013. A companion game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate will release for the handheld consoles Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita the same day. Release dates are worldwide.
