Joss Whedon has confirmed prevailing speculation that the brother-sister pair planned for 2015's Avengers sequel is indeed Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, in an interview with IGN conducted this week at ABC's upfront presentation.
"You know, they had a rough beginning," Whedon told the site. "They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier."
Whedon first mentioned that a "brother-sister act" was in the Avengers 2 script late last month at the Iron Man 3 premiere.
(Speaking of that movie — spoilers follow if you haven't seen it yet.)
As for Iron Man's status at the end of Iron Man 3 making things a little difficult for his inclusion in the team, Whedon said not to worry.
“Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, ‘I’ve changed' -- he blew up his remote suits, but I don’t think anybody thinks he doesn’t have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, ‘Yes!’”
The Avengers sequel is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015.
