The new series of Astro City will be released under DC's Vertigo imprint, as announced by the publisher.

The return of the series, not published with new material since 2010, was originally announced to be part of "DC Entertainment." Astro City started in 1995 at Image Comics, before moving to DC as part of their 1999 acquisition of WildStorm. Though Vertigo is known as DC's "mature readers" imprint, Astro City hasn't previously been labeled as such and will continue not to be.

At WonderCon this past weekend, Astro City artist Brent Anderson discussed the upcoming new volume, emphasizing the new characters like American Chibi and The Ambassador, the latter seen in the above variant cover to #1 by Alex Ross.

On Twitter, Busiek addressed the move to Vertigo with a fan, saying it "Makes sense to me. ASTRO CITY's always been aimed at a more sophisticated reader, which I think suits Vertigo. Plus our backlist sales are closer to a Vertigo pattern than DCU."
