This weekend, Los Angeles once again becomes center stage for the gaming world, as this year’s E for All Expo gives gamers a place to come together and, well, game. In addition to the publishers and developers showing off games that are coming this holiday season, the E for All Expo also plays host to World Cyber Games USA 2008 National Final.
World Cyber Games (WCG) is not trying to compete directly with Major League Gaming, which hosts tournaments primarily for established players and teams. Instead, according to their press release, they look to be the “Olympics of Video Games,” hosting international tournaments with country-based teams. At the Nationals in LA, over 200 gamers from across the US will compete in 14 games to be art of the 25-member Team USA. The Team will then go on to compete against the world in Germany this November. Over seventy countries compete in the WCG finals, making it a massive international event.
In addition to the National Finals, WCG is teaming up with Samsung to provide an on-site walk-up tournament, where gamers can play mobile games for cash prizes, or play Iron Man on Xbox 360 for gift cards.
The big event for the average gamer, however, is the exclusive chance to play Gears of War 2’s cooperative mode, “Horde” before the game comes out later this fall. The WCG event, and all entailed here, takes place all day Friday, all day Saturday, and Sunday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm PST at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
