Halle Berry Back as Storm for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
First reported by Deadline on Monday afternoon and quickly confirmed by director Bryan Singer on Twitter, the Academy Award-winner will be reprising her role from the first three X-Men films. Singer's tweet reads: "Couldn't be more excited that #HalleBerry has joined the cast of #XMen #DaysofFuturePast. Hopefully she can improve the weather in Montreal." Over the weekend, Berry was reported by Access Hollywood as saying "I think I'm in" for Days of Future Past, during a press junket for her forthcoming film The Call.
Storm plays a major role in the "Days of Future Past" 1981 comic book two-parter, as one of the few surviving X-Men active in the dystopian future of the story. In an interview published earlier Monday with Newsarama, original "Days of Future Past" writer Chris Claremont discussed the importance of including Storm in the film. "If we're doing Days of Future Past, we need Ororo, we need Logan. OK, we've got Hugh Jackman, but that means we've got to get Halle Berry. I'm sure some accountant at Fox is going, 'Huh? 'We're talking how much?'"Berry is the second cast announcement in the past three days, with Singer revealing this past Saturday that French actor Omar Sy will play an as-yet unrevealed role. X-Men: Days of Future Past, also including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman and Peter Dinklage, is scheduled for release on July 18. 2014.
