Update: 'MARVEL OF THE DEAD' Teaser Image

Updated 9 p.m. ET: As a couple of our steely-eyed Facebook commenters pointed out, zombie master George A. Romero — of Dawn of the Dead and Night of the Living Dead fame — was reported by Twitchfilm in October of last year as writing a comic for Marvel.

Here's what he said back then:

"I am also writing a comic for Marvel. I'm writing it now, but it's plot is a secret... I can tell you it won't involve any of their on-going characters, there will be no superheroes. But it will involve zombies!"

So. Romero. Marvel. "Of the Dead." Yeah, seems to be a pretty good indicator of what this teaser is all about. As always, keep reading for more details.

Updated 4:10pm ET: And now straight from Marvel, here's the teaser, pretty much just as it was described to us.

"Marvel of the Dead."

Who's got a theory?

Original story: Comics book retailers attending Marvel’s breakfast presentation at Friday’s ComicsPro membership meeting might have gotten a quick tease to the publisher’s next big event and/or storyline and/or story arc.

While we were unable to acquire an image, retailers in attendance tell Newsarama Marvel showed a teaser – mostly black and red – with their block logo on top, followed by the copy “of the Dead”, and then “Fall 2013” at the bottom.

That’s it readers, that’s all we got. Marvel declined comment on our inquiries about the image Friday afternoon. We'll let you know if and when we hear - or see - anything more.
