ABC Exec 'Hopeful' S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Get Series Pick-Up

Paul Lee, president of ABC Entertainment Group, is "very hopeful" that the Joss Whedon-directed S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot will be picked up as a series, according to Deadline.

Speaking at the ongoing Television Critics Association winter press tour, Lee is quoted as describing the series as "smart with heart" and "very Joss." Discussing its audience potential, Lee said that "Marvel has the ability to bring out the whole family," and that the show is versatile enough to be placed at a variety of time slots.

Lee is also reported as saying that ABC is "developing a lot of Marvel shows," without any futher specifics.

Filming on the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, based on the comic book espionage agency created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965 and depicted in the popular Marvel Studios films, is likely to begin in March, to be in contention for the fall 2013 television season.
