Harlan Ellison Gets Graphic

DC has announced a new graphic novel by Harlan Ellison coming in summer 2013.

Ellison, the superstar writer of sci-fi and other speculative fiction, will team with multi-award winning artist Paul Chadwick (Concrete) on the graphic novel, titled Harlan Ellison's 7 Against Chaos. Expected next summer, the book is apparently being published under the DC imprint, and is described as a futuristic take on The Seven Samurai.

Announced on DC's The Source blog, the book takes place in the future of Earth, where the fabric of reality is unraveling, causing "natural disasters, displaced souls appearing from bygone eras, and sudden, shocking cases of spontaneous combustion." To save the earth, a group of seven warriors try to find the source of the chaos to save reality. "This is 21 years of work finally come to fruition," Ellison said.

MARTIAN MANHUNTER Solos in JLA Back-Up

The DC blog also announced a new back-up story for Justice League of America beginning with March's issue #2.

The back-up story, which is presumably ongoing, will focus on the character Martian Manhunter (although DC shortened his name to just "Manhunter" for the story's title). The ongoing stories will be co-written by Matt Kindt and Geoff Johns, with art by Scott Clark. "His powers and abilities really lend themselves to the kind of stories I love to tell. And working with Geoff? That's like the cherry on top," said Kindt, who is currently finishing up a run on Frankenstein: Agent of Shade for DC.

The writer indicated the "Manhunter" back-ups would be an "essential part" of the overall JLA story. The character is already one of the team members featured in the Justice League of America comic, which will be launched in February by Johns and artist David Finch.
