STAR WARS Prequels, Special Eds Producer Leaves Lucasfilm
Rick McCallum, producer at Lucasfilm for 20 years, is leaving the company behind to focus on his own independent features, he announced on StarWars.com this weekend. The producer's most well-known work was of course The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. But seriously, his legacy to Star Wars included producing the Special Editions of the original trilogy as well as the prequel trilogy. The new digital post-production techniques McCallum pioneered for the Young Indy TV series have been used across Lucasfilm and across movies in general. McCallum told StarWars.com that he's excited about the future of the franchise. "There's only person in the world who could do this, and that's Kathleen Kennedy," he told the site. "There's no one more suited who is able to bridge the worlds of elite filmmaking within a studio context. The Star Wars saga will always be taken care of under her leadership. She is truly one of the greatest producers in America as well as being a great friend."
The producer's next two projects are Eastern European dramas being independently produced after he recently relocated to Prague, his wife's home city.
