Sony tested at least four young actors Monday for the role of Harry Osborn for the sequel to Amazing Spider-Man, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The Hollywood trade citers “insiders” who claim the actors testing are British actor Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Snow White & the Huntsman); fellow Brit Eddie Redmayne (My Week With Marilyn, Marius in the upcoming Les Miserables); Douglas Booth (LOL, and a role in Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming Noah); and American Boyd Holbrook (The Big C, Hatfields & McCoys).
The sequel reunites director Marc Webb with stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, along with newcomer Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane. Jamie Foxx is reportedly in consideration for the role of Electro.
The Hollywood Reporter reports the production was originally seeking actors to take the role in a “more brooding and dark path”, with actors Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet initially under consideration. But the ubiquitous “sources” say the producers and filmmakers now are seeking actors with characteristics that include “athleticism and good looks.”
The casting of Harry Osborn is the latest indication that his father Norman Osborn will play a significant role in the rebooted film series.
