Jamie Foxx might be joining the Amazing Spider-Man 2 cast as long-time Spidey villain Electro, Variety reports. The trade publication broke news Thursday afternoon that the Oscar-winning actor is "in early talks" to play Electro in the 2014 sequel. Electro has been seen as the front-runner as the film's villain since last month, though Deadline's version of the story said it was "unclear" how Foxx would fit into the current script.
Foxx himself tweeted a rather broad hint earlier today, writing, "Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well."
Electro has been part of the Spider-Man mythos since Amazing Spider-Man #9, and, like Spider-Man, was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Electro — the criminal code name of Max Dillon — has been portrayed as Caucasian in previous incarnations, meaning this would be the latest example of a Marvel character being portrated in live-action by an actor of a different race, along with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, Idris Elba's Heimdall and the late Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin.
Amazing Spider-Man 2, with director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone all returning, is scheduled out on May 2, 2014. Foxx will next be seen on-screen in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, out Dec. 25, which will get a five-part comic book adaptation from DC starting in December.Got a comment?
