Writer Christos Gage has commented on Twitter about the news that Avengers Academy is ending in November, and indicated that the characters will stick around the Marvel Universe.
"The characters will still be around, in other hands," Gage told a fan. "Can't say much more."
Whether this means a relaunched Avengers Academy with a new writer — which would follow the pattern of Gage's other ongoing Marvel series, X-Men Legacy, that ends in October and is relaunched in November with writer Simon Spurrier — or the characters popping up in a different book, be it Jonathan Hickman's New Avengers (said to have a very different hook than the current incarnation of the series) or whatever the Wiccan, Kid Loki and Miss America image on the Marvel NOW! Point One cover is teasing, remains to be seen.
When asked for comment, a representative from Marvel responded, "We have exciting plans. Stay tuned for major announcements over the next few months."
Amid thanking fans, fellow pros and retailers for their support, Gage — who wrote every issue of Avengers Academy's 39-issue run — also indicated that he's still doing "a bunch of stuff" for Marvel, just nothing ongoing at the moment." Avengers Academy debuted in June 2010, as part of Marvel's "Heroic Age" initiative.
