With the release of new comic books from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image this is proving to be a big week for me. As of today you have the privilege of being able to purchase Punisher War Journal 20, Fear Agent 21, Wolverine: Dangerous Game, All-New Atom #24, The Sorrow trade paperback (With my fellow “Wizard Future Titan of Comics” lister Francesco Francavilla), and last but not least the XXXOMBIES trade paperback. If you know what’s good for America-- you’ll go out and buy these books.
Also this week I received the final pages for my new Image book, Frank Frazetta’s Creatures from art ninja Peter Bergting. Upon viewing them I immediately wet myself with urine of pure pride. Peter’s art sings. The pride-urine was 100% pure so I bottled it and sold it to less prideful people such as street performers and Republicans. Here is a taste of the magic to come...
Then, once I’d cleaned up the first offering of pride-urine, some Pat Olliffe Atom pages came in... and the urine began to flow anew. From Peter to Pat, it was as if the children of Mike Mignola and Al Williamson had begun to send me their drawings. Writing Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi meeting was good fun as well...
Afterwards, as my office chair was being sorted out by a pride-urine clean up crew in haz-mat suits, new colored Black Heart Billy pages rolled in. Black Heart Billy is a book Kieron Dwyer and I produced shortly after I moved to San Francisco a few years back. IDW is giving all 120 pages of past Black Heart Billy adventures the deluxe treatment bringing in brilliant skateboard artist Kevin Cross to color our story. We stole Kevin from his job doing deck art at Deluxe for Anti-Hero to make BHB look like 80’s skate art come to life. Kieron Dwyer did the breakdowns and I did the finishes...
Later in the day I opened up my iPhone in the grocery store to see this new cover by Eric Canete and Naomi Baker for The End League #7. Pride-urine flushed from my system with the great thrust of a fire hose, rocketing me back into the produce section where I doused the delicious cucumbers and evil Brussels sprouts.
Next thing I know Hilary Barta is sending me Mark Nelson’s pages from Fear Agent for the big Fear Agent 25th issue special. Hil wrote it and brought Nelson in to draw it. You’ll remember Mark from the very first Aliens series Dark Horse did. His polished duo-shade art brought real mood giving the aliens the same spooky life they had in the first two films. He did it all with just two colors, black and white. I was all out of pride-urine but a strange powdery pride-mist sprayed forth...
I also commissioned this perfect drawing of Aquaman from friend Raphael Albuquerque...
And this moody Punisher piece from Jerome Opeña...
Okay, that’s it for this week. Next week I’ll be back with a big announcement about a two new series I’m working on and a pants load of jaw-dropping art.
